backupVISUAL™ 2.4
After a very intensive
development and test stage we are pleased to introduce the
new version 2.4 of backupVISUAL™. The new version
is optimized and again more standardized in many areas so
that future expansions (reports, functions, features and
additional platforms) can be integrated faster. Besides
the internal optimizations, which are not directly visible
to the user, backupVISUAL™ 2.4 has been enhanced with
essential expansions:
NEW:
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager™
backupVISUAL™ 2.4 provides a full integration for
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager™ as a fully supported backup
application (Windows, UNIX and Linux; version 5.2 or higher).
The following list gives you a short overview about the
available reports:
- Volume report
- Volume summary
- Volumes in error state
- Activity report
- Activity overview
- Activity summary
- Activity grid
- Occupancy report
- Occupancy summary
- Performance report
- Resource usage
NEW:
More exciting Transfer Protocols (Collector to Parser)
backupVISUAL™ 2.4 supports a lot of new transfer protocols
to transfer the collected data to the backupVISUAL™
2.4 Parser. Unique is the SMTP/POP3 transfer protocol. This
new protocol is the perfect solution for remote offices,
managed service or high security environments. The collected
data is transferred as an email attachment to the backupVISUAL
2.4 Parser. The email client is integrated in the Collector
and Parser, so there is no need to install a third party
email client. More information about the new transfer protocols
can be found within the admin guide for the backupVISUAL™
Collector and Parser.

Chart Properties
There are some new options within the chart properties which
will give you the possibilities to create new fancy charts:

3D - Transparency
This function allows you to change the transparency of
the 3D objects.
Appearance (Bar chart only)
Allows you to specify the appearance of the bar charts.
The following options are available:
Block - The bars are displayed as blocks.
Cylinder - The bars are displayed as
cylinders.
Cone - The bars are displayed as cones.
Pyramid - The bars are displayed as pyramids.
Inner radius (Pie chart only)
Allows you to specify the inner radius of a pie chart.
This chart type is sometime referenced as a doughnut chart.
NEW:
Templates with {Date}; {From}; {To} Place Holder
Within the header, footer, legend or the x-axis/y-axis description
of a chart (Chart Properties) you can use the following
placeholders: {Date}; {From}; {To}. E.g. if you use a header
like:
Job Overview from {From} bis {To}
The BatchReporter will replace the {From} and {To} with
the results coming from the /From and /To values. Example
for a header:
Job Overview from 1.7.2007 bis 31.7.2007
Important:
These placeholders are only replaced using the BatchReporter.
If you open the template within the backupVISUAL™
Reporter the header from the above example will be displayed
as: Job Overview from {From} to {To}.
NEW:
Additional Parameters for the BatchReporter
The backupVISUAL™ BatchReporter comes with the following
new parameters:
/Width - Allows you to specify the chart
size width in pixels.
/Height - Allows you to specify the chart
size height in pixels.
/TargetPath - Allows you to specify the
target path for the BatchReporter output.
NEW: Save Options (BatchReporter
Chart Size)
IThe “Save options” for the Templates allows
you to define a default chart size for the BatchReporter.

The
settings from the following window will create a graphic
file (*.JPG, *.PNG, *.TIF etc.) with a size of 640 x 480
pixels every time you are using the BatchReporter together
with this Template. By using the /Width and /Height parameter,
you can override the values stored within the Template and
specify a new chart size for the graphic file. You can only
change the chart size of standard reports! The graphic size
of all other reports will be automatically calculated and
depends on the content and actual view!
NEW:
Record Limits for different Reports
Within
the User Profile (backupVISUAL™ Reporter) is a new
tab “Record limits”. The record limits determine
the maximum number of records for a report type. It is a
security function to avoid an unnecessary overload on the
database server. Please do not change any values within
this window! The default values are suitable for most environments.
You only need to change the record limits, if you get a
pop up window during the creation of a report informing
you that not all records are displayed and you should make
a closer selection or increase the query limit..

NEW:
On-Line Help und Admin Guides (Reporter, Collector and Parser)
backupVISUAL™ 2.4 comes with a complete new on-line
help and admin guides (PDF documents) for the Reporter,
Collector and Parser.
